Group Management and Communication Support for Collaborative Applications
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper, an architecture for communication support for collaborative applications is described. The motivation for the design of this architecture is the observation that generic support for group communications is an area which received not much attention until now. The design is based on two components, a group management system (GMS) and group communication support (GCS). The GMS is responsible for managing the name space of the support platform. Users and groups are the two entities of the name space, and two di erent relationships between them (membership and manager) can be established. This way it is possible to re ect the structure of collaborative workers inside the GMS. The GCS component is responsible for establishing connections between collaborative applications using the GMS/GCS and for hiding the details of the multicast transport infrastructure from the application. It is possible to bind users and groups to speci c applications and multicast transport services. This way any group can be used by di erent applications using di erent transport services. The main advantages of GMS/GCS are reduced implementation costs, a shared name space of users and groups, and a simple interface to di erent multicast transport services.

The vision of ubiquitous communication is driven by increasing user mobility and the need to collaborate. Mobile collaborative applications, such as mobile audio/video conferences, collaborative writing, social networks, and mobile gaming, are already important parts of human interaction. In this paper, we present the uBeeMe platform that supports the development of cooperative applications for...
متن کاملConsistency support for a decentralized management in close multiparty conferences using SIP
-Distributed multimedia applications such as conference and collaborative applications require an appropriate conference management. Close group conferences like meetings, discussions, teleseminars, or consultations need a strictly controlled group membership. Current conference systems achieve this by using a centralized group server as specified in the H.32x standards. Decentralized approache...

With continuous acceptance of WWW as a de facto standard for humancomputer interaction and human-human communication, it is desirable to develop collaborative applications under the framework of WWW. In this paper, we present a new script language called JACIE, which is designed to support rapid implementation of a wide range of multimedia collaborative applications. In particular, we highlight...
